Note on Husband: Richard SHORTLAND

Lived on Fair Hill, Cork. Had gas poisoning from WW1. Had "his knees broken" -- I gather that was a surgical procedure for the arthritis/rheumatism, which also was caused by his time in the trenches.

 

As a result He had a stiff-legged walk and children on the street used to make fun of him, mocking his walk.

STEVENS (Fr O'Flynn Place, Ballymacthomas, off Blarney Street, Cork): On March 14, 2013, peacefully, in the presence of her loving family, at her home, Teresa (nee Shortland), (EdeM), dearly beloved wife of Michael John, devoted mother of Sidney, Richard, Celine, Bernadette, Teresa, Kieran, Regina and the late Micheál. Sadly missed and deeply mourned by her loving husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, sisters, nephews, nieces, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and her many friends.

O’Flaherty (Crosshaven) On January 4th 2013, peacefully in the loving care of her family Margaret (Rita, Nee Shortland) beloved wife of Thomas and devoted mother of Teresa, Pauline, Richard, Roma and James (Joyce). Sadly missed by her loving husband, family, grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, sisters, brothers, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace. Reposing at her daughters residence Knocknagore, Church Bay on Saturday(4th) from 4pm until Rosary at 7.30pm and on Sunday(5th) from 3pm until 6pm. Reception on Monday into St. Brigid’s Church for Requiem Mass at 10.30am, followed by burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
